Jiujiang, or “Xun” for short, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangxi Province. Historically known as “Chaisang”, “Jiangzhou”and “Xunyang”, it is a famous city in the region south of the Yangtze River with a history of 2200 years. Jiujiang enjoys a strategic location and convenient transportation, and is endowed with beautiful landscapes and abundant resources. The city also boasts rich cultural heritage, arobust economy and thriving commerce.Praised by an ancient poet as a picturesque land where the nine tributaries converge, the city has long been hailed as the most charming spot of the rivers and mountains under heaven. Today, Jiujiang has earned numerous honors, including National Excellent Tourism City, one of Chinas Top Ten Charming Cities, one of Chinas Most Livable City, National Hygienic City, National Garden City, National Forest City, National Model City for Promoting Mutual Support between the Military and the Government and between the Military and the People, and a Tourism city with Strong International Influence.


Jiujiang stretches 270 kilometers from east to west, 140 kilometers from north to south, and covers a total area of 19.084 thousand square kilometers, accounting for 11.3% of the whole area of Jiangxi Province. Jiujiangs terrain is higher in the east and west and lower in the middle, slightly elevated in the south and sloping toward the north, with an average elevation of 32 meters (20 meters in urban area). The mighty Yangtze Rive, the rippling Poyang Lake, and the rolling Mount Lushan together form a landscape pattern of one soaring mountain and two converging waters. Nestled among this renowned river, lake and mountain, the ancient city of Xunyang presents a distinctive urban charm where the mountain borders the city, the city rests by the water, and the water runs through the city.


Jiujiang administers 3 municipal districts, 7 counties, 2 county-level cities, as well as several functional zones and new areas. Specifically, these include:

Municipal districts: Xunyang, Lianxi, and Chaisang;

Counties: Wuning, Xiushui, Yongxiu, De’an, Duchang, Hukou, and Pengze;

County-level cities: Ruichang, Lushan and Gongqing;

Functional zones and new areas: Jiujiang Economic and Technological Development Zone, Lushan West Sea Scenic Area, Bali Lake New Area, and the Administrative Committee of Poyang Lake Eco-Tech City.
