According to customs statistics, in the first quarter of 2026, Jiujiang City got off to a strong start in foreign trade, with its total imports and exports grew by 30.9 percent year-on-year to 13.33 billion yuan. Of this total, exports amounted to 7.1 billion yuan, rising by 43.1 percent. This growth rate ranked first in Jiangxi Province, 34.7 percentage points higher than the provincial average. Imports grew by 19.3 percent to 6.23 billion yuan, surpassing the 6 billion yuan mark for the first time and hitting a record high.
Jiujiang has continued to expand its circle of trading partners. In Q1, the city conducted trade with 161 countries and regions, adding 18 new partners from last year. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China remained Jiujiang’s largest trading partner with a total trade volume of 2.37 billion yuan. Exports to Hong Kong amounted to 2.36 billion yuan, a 1.5-fold increase that contributed 28.9 percentage points to the city’s overall export growth. Simultaneously, trade with developed economies such as the EU, South Korea and Canada maintained steady growth, while trade growth with emerging markets in Latin America, Africa and South Asia increased by over 40 percent respectively.
All types of market entities achieved all-round growth. The number of Jiujiang enterprises with import and export records rose by 119 to reach 642 in Q1. State-owned enterprises (SOEs) contributed significantly to this growth, with trade volume rising 79.1 percent to 5.06 billion yuan. Its proportion in the city’s total foreign trade rose by 10.2 percentage points over the same period of last year, contributing over 70 percent to the city’s foreign trade growth. Additionally, private enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises recorded trade volumes of 5.11 billion yuan and 3.17 billion yuan, growing by 16.2 percent and 6.8 percent respectively.
Key industries demonstrated prominent advantages. The non-ferrous metal smelting and processing trade volume reached 5.76 billion yuan, an increase of 1.3 times, accounting for 43.2 percent of the city’s total foreign trade. The exports of precious metals ranked 6th among city-level exporters nationwide, with an increase of 1.9 times. Meanwhile, all counties and districts of Jiujiang City achieved balanced growth. Among which, 11 achieved positive growth in imports and exports, and 8 posted double-digit growth.
According to Jiujiang Customs, it will continue to optimize the port business environment, implement key work tasks, and fully leverage Jiujiang’s advantage as a strategic gateway port connecting inland waterways to the sea, and bolster the high-quality development of Jiujiang’s foreign trade.
