Dr. Tian Yu of the School of Arts at Jiujiang University was invited by the City Hall of Yaroslavl — Jiujiang’s sister city in Russia— to serve on the judging panel for the 10th International Youth Vocal Competition named after Leonid Sobinov, held from April 14 to 17.
During the event, Dr. Tian Yu worked alongside two Russian vocal education experts to evaluate contestants on vocal technique, musical interpretation and stage performance. In addition to her judging duties, she met with local educators to exchange views on youth vocal training and music education practices in China and Russia. She also explored Yaroslavl’s rich historical and cultural heritages during the visit.
The trip marked another step in the growing cultural ties between Jiujiang and Yaroslavl, reflecting the two sister cities’ ongoing efforts to expand people-to-people and artistic exchanges. It also helped deepen mutual understanding and inject fresh momentum into local-level cooperation between China and Russia.
