The 41st Pan-Baltic University Games recently concluded at the Olympic Centre in Riga, Latvia. Mei Yuqing, a badminton player from De'an County, Jiujiang, who majors in Sports Training at the College of Physical Education, Chongqing University, represented Chinese university students at the event and delivered an excellent performance. She teamed up with her partners to claim gold in Mixed Team Pursuit (100-point scoring system) and Women's Doubles, and finished fourth in Women's Singles, bringing honors to her country and hometown.
Coached by her mentor Yang Qi from De'an County, Mei Yuqing was admitted to Chongqing University from De'an No.3 Middle School in 2025 on the strength of her outstanding athletic performance. The Mixed Team Pursuit (100-point scoring system) was highly competitive at the Games. Representing Chongqing University, her team overcame a series of formidable opponents and defeated the team of Vytautas Magnus University of Lithuania in the final to claim the championship. As a core member of the team, Mei contributed crucial points to the victory.
In the Women's Doubles final, Mei partnered with her teammate Cao Jingyi. Demonstrating impeccable coordination and composure, the duo defeated their Lithuanian rivals in two straight games, securing another gold medal for the Chinese delegation. Meanwhile, Mei advanced to the semifinals of Women's Singles and finished in fourth place, showcasing her all-round competitive prowess.
Founded in 1923, the Pan-Baltic University Games rank among Europe's oldest university sports events. This edition drew student athletes from 17 countries and regions including China, Armenia, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy and the United States, with high athletic standards and fierce competition.
