Sister Cities

Wuerselen is located in the west of Germany. It has a population of 40,000 and covers 35sq.km in area. Wuerselen which enjoys a rich history was built in AD 870. In the city, there is a site of castle built in 13th century. The well-known non-governmental "Youth Games" was held here.

In February 2011, Ruichang County established Sister Cities Relationship with Wuerselen.

Exchanges and cooperation between Jiujiang and Wuerselen in recent years

In April 2017, a 19-member delegation from Wuerselen visited Ruichang.

In October 2017, Mr. Jiang Xunkai, then Mayor of Ruichang, led a 6-member delegation to visit Wuerselen.

In March 2018, a delegation of 10 students and teachers from Wuerselen visited Ruichang.

In September 2018, Mr. Xiong Yongqiang, then Deputy Secretary of the Jiujiang Municipal Committee, led a 6-member delegation to visit Wuerselen.

In April 2019, a delegation of 26 people from Wuerselen visited Ruichang.

In July 2019, a delegation of 30 teachers and students from Ruichang No.1 Middle School visited Gymnasium in Wuerselen and participated in a summer camp.

In March 2020, Ruichang donated 30,000 masks to Wuerselen to help fight COVID-19.

In 2021, Ruichang and Wuerselen exchanged congratulatory messages to each other over the 10th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relationship between the two cities.

In June 2022, Wuerselen participated in the International Sister Cities Cooperation Forum of City Clusters along the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River virtually.

In June 2024, Yan Shengping, Secretary of the Jiujiang Municipal Committee of Political and Legal Affairs, led a six-member delegation on a visit to  Wuerselen, Germany. The two sides held in-depth discussions on exchanges and cooperation across various fields.

City Yaroslavl is the administrative center of the Yaroslavl Region. It is situated in the central part of the East European Plain on both banks of the river Volga, at the place of influx of Kotorosl into Volga, 282 kilometres to the north-east of Moscow. The distance from Yaroslavl to Saint-Petersburg is 850 kilometers.

The city is situated in the moderate continental climate zone. The average temperature in January is –11°C, in July +18°C. Average annual precipitation is 520-590 mm. Yaroslavl is situated at the intersection of automobile and railway roads, water and airways, long-distance oil and gas pipelines. The area of the city is 21.4 thousand hectares, the city is administratively divided into 6 districts.

Yaroslavl is an ancient Russian fortress city on the Volga river. As the city was strategically and geographically in a favorable position, it became the strongpoint of princely power and outpost for the spread of Christianity in the Russian North East.

Yaroslavl was not only a developed commercial and crafts center, but also a center of culture. The development of book-learning, spread of education and a high literacy rate in different layers of society, the development of local chronicle writing, formation of architectural and art traditions determined the economic and cultural blossom of the city on the Volga.

In the modern and contemporary period of history the role of the city as a large industrial and cultural center of Russia has risen. The 20th century gave new momentum to the development of industrial production in Yaroslavl.

Yaroslavl has always been admired by travelers. In the second half of the 20th century, after it has been included in the famous Russian tourist route – The Golden Ring of Russia, Yaroslavl has received a powerful impetus in development of domestic and inbound tourism. The city became the largest center of cultural tourism.

Exchanges and cooperation between Jiujiang and Yaroslavl

In November 2014, Jiujiang and Yaroslavl began to interacted with each other.

In December 2016, Xiong Yongqiang, then Vice Secretary of the Jiujiang Municipal Party Committee, led a delegation to visit Yaroslavl City. Both sides had in-depth discussions on exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, and other field, which enhanced mutual trust.

In May 2018, the Youth Art Delegation from Yaroslavl City visited Jiujiang and jointly held the "China and Russia Youth Art Exchange Exhibition".

In June 2020, Jiujiang and Yaroslavl City signed on-line the Supplement Agreement to the Protocol of Intention between the city of Yaroslavl(Russia) and the City of Jiujiang(China) for the period 2021-2022.

In September 2020, then Mayor of Jiujiang City, Xie Laifa, expressed congratulations to Yaroslavl City on the 1010-year anniversary of its foundation.

In December 2021, Jiujiang held the International Sister City Painting Exhibition, 26 paintings from Yaroslavl City were exhibited.

In November 2022, Tongwen Middle School established contact with the Yaroslavl No. 43 Middle School and conducted educational exchanges.

In December 2022, Jiujiang and Yaroslavl City signed the Joint Statement Concerning Results of the Protocol of Intention between the city of Yaroslavl(Russia) and the City of Jiujiang(China) for the period 2019-2022.

In December 2022, the leaders of Jiujiang sent a letter congratulating Molchanov on his election as the Mayor of Yaroslavl City.

In May 2023, Bao Chenggeng, the Vice Mayor of Jiujiang, led a delegation to visit Yaroslavl City. Jiujiang and Yaroslavl City signed the Activity Plan for Development of Cooperation between Yaroslavl City Hall (Russian Federation) and Jiujiang Municipal People’s Government (People’s Republic of China) for 2023-2028.

In July 2023, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially approved the establishment of an international friendly city relationship between Jiujiang and Yaroslavl City.

In July 2023, the Mayor of Yaroslavl City sent a letter to Jiujiang congratulating Jiang Wending on his election as the Mayor of Jiujiang.

In July 2023, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with Yaroslavl City.

In October 2023, Yaroslavl City and Jiujiang signed the Agreement on Establishing Friendship-City Relations between Jiujiang Municipal People’s Government(The People’s Republic of China) and Yaroslavl City(Russian Federation). And the Mayor of Yaroslavl City led a delegation to visit Jiujiang to carry out friendly exchanges in economic, trade, education, culture and other fields.

In October 2024, at the invitation of Mayor of Yaroslavl, Jiang Wending, Mayor of Jiujiang led a delegation to visit Yaroslavl. The two sides exchanged views in such fields as education, tourism, trade, culture. Gavrilov, Deputy Mayor of Yaroslavl was invited to attend the opening ceremony of 2024 Jiujiang ( Gongqingcheng )and Yaroslavl Down Clothing Fair. At the fair, Gongqingcheng Textile and Apparel Association signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Yaroslavl Branch of China-Russia Friendship Association, which have opened a new chapter of friendly relations between the two cities.

In November 2024, at the invitation of President of the CPAFFC&CIFCA and Mayor of Jiujiang, Molchanov, Mayor of Yaroslavl led a delegation to Kunming to attend the 2024 China International Friendship Cities Conference. At the conference, Molchanov received the "Friendship City Award for Outstanding Partnership with China" and delivered a speech as a foreign award-winning representative.

In February 2025, Mr. Artem Molchanov, Mayor of Yaroslavl, Russia, sent a letter to Mayor Jiang Wending, inviting Jiujiang City to send a delegation to participate in the celebration of Yaroslavl City Day on May 31, 2025, marking the city's 1015th anniversary.

In March 2025, at the invitation of Jiujiang City, Elena Volkova, Deputy Mayor of Yaroslavl, led a delegation to Jiujiang for a four-day exchange visit. During their stay in Jiujiang, the Yaroslavl delegation engaged in in-depth exchanges with Jiujiang counterparts in the fields of education, sports, and culture.

Redbridge, an England London Municipality also named Redbridge Borough, is located in the northeast of the capital London, close to the Olympic Village, owning the perfect location. It has a population of 260,000 with 56sq.km in area. It's an energetic and racial diversified city. Famous people like Prime Minister Winston Churchill spent 40 years in politics in Redbridge in the 20th century.

In June 2018, then Mayor of Redbridge, Dale Cauldyar sent a congratulatory letter to the newly-elected government leaders on their inauguration.

In August 2019, Ms. Li Jun, then Vice Mayor of Jiujiang Government, led a 6-member delegation to Redbridge for a friendly visit, The delegation held talks with Redbridge government on friendly exchanges and cooperation in the fields of education and tourism. During the visit, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on friendship partnership.

In 2021, Jiujiang City and Redbridge exchanged congratulatory messages over the 10th anniversary of the establishment of sister city relationship between the two cities.

Koper, which lies to the Adriatic Sea, is located to the southwest of Slovenia. As the biggest harbor city in the country, with convenient transportation, it is known as the "Center of the European Continent". The city has a subtropical Mediterranean climate and it covers an area of 303sq.km with a population of 50000.

The modern port trade and transportation industry in the city account for a relatively large proportion and the annual throughput of port freight is about 20 million tons. Basic industry and light industry equipment are well-equipped, while other industries include smelting, chemical industry, motorcycle industry, wood processing, coffee processing, and machinery manufacturing. Agriculture and fruit industry are relatively developed, while grape cultivation and wine-making industry are more advanced.

Koper has modern communication facilities, rich cultural life, and widespread sports. The city is a bustling commercial hub and a thriving tourist city, with a unique natural harbor, an increasingly perfect investment environment, and rich natural landscapes.

In April 1995, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with Koper.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, Jiujiang and Koper offered consolations to each other by e-mails. On March 26, 2020, at the request of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in China, Jiujiang donated 30,000 disposable surgical masks and 2,000 pairs of medical gloves to Slovenia.

In July 2023, the Mayor of Koper sent a letter to Jiujiang congratulating Jiang Wending on his election as the Mayor of Jiujiang.

In April 2024, Liu Wenhua, Secretary of Jiujiang Municipal Committee of the CPC, led a 6-member delegation to visit Koper.

City of Chios is located by the east coast of Chios Island. It's the center of administration and commerce. Former sites of these castles which were built in Middle Ages can be found everywhere in the whole city. The island covers 904sq.km in area with a population of 53,800. Not only the business center, but center of culture and amusement is the city of Chios. Culture contribution is quite a lot and one of the cultural sights is Homeric Cultural Center.

In July 2008, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with Chios.

In March 2017, Jiujiang and Jeongseon signed an agreement on the establishment of sister city relations online.

In October 2018, Jiujiang's Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, News and Tourism organized an art delegation of 6 people to attend the 43th Arirang Festival in Jeongseon County, and performed Yongxiu Yaya Opera and Huangmei Opera.

In March 2020, Jiujiang and Jeongseon exchanged consolation messages to support each other during the COVID-19.

In December 2021, Jiujiang held the International Sister City Painting Exhibition, 12 paintings from Jeongseon were exhibited.

In July 2023, Choi Seung-jun，the Mayor of Jeongseon sent a letter of congratulation to Jiang Wending on his election as Mayor of Jiujiang.

In September 2023, Sun Jinmiao, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jiujiang Municipal Committee led Jiujiang delegation to pay a friendly visit to Jeongseon. They took part in the 2023 Jeongseon Arirang Festival to promote cultural exchanges between China and South Korea in the field of intangible cultural heritage.

In September 2024, Zhou Meixiang, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of Jiujiang Municipal People’s Congress led a delegation of six people to pay a friendly visit to Jeongseon to promote cultural exchanges between China and South Korea in the field of intangible cultural heritage.

In September 2025, Lee Chang-woo, Vice County Chief of Jeongseon, South Korea, led a 12-member delegation on a three-day visit to Jiujiang City. The purpose of this visit was to enhance mutual understanding and deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two cities.

Tamano which lies to the Seto Inland Sea is a harbor city. It has a population of 70,000 and is over 103sq.km in area. It's typical marine climate, so the climatic change is not clear here. Depending on natural good harbor and shipbuilding industry, it has always been prosperous and thriving from of old. As the mainstay industry, it possesses the most advanced shipbuilding technology.

In October 1996, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with Tamano.

In September 2018, Tongya Fukuda, then president of the Japan-China Friendship Association of Tamano, led a delegation to visit Jiujiang. On his return trip, He carried the students' calligraphy and painting works from Jiujiang Primary Schools, which are the gifts to the NO.2 Primary School of Tamano. From October to December 2018, a calligraphy and painting exhibition held in Tamano Municipal Government and NO.2 Primary School of Tamano, exhibiting the artworks of students from Jiujiang Primary School .

In May 2019, Xie Yiping, then Mayor of Jiujiang Government, sent a letter to Kuroda Susumu, Mayor of Tamano, congratulating him on his re-election.

In September 2019, Jiujiang Primary School held a painting and calligraphy exhibition, exhibiting artworks of students from NO.2 Primary School of Tamano.

In October 2019, Jiujiang People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries sent a message of condolence to the relatives of then president of the Japan-China Friendship Association of Tamano, expressing deep grief at Toya Fukuda's death.

In February 2020, Tamano donated 20,000 medical surgical masks to Jiujiang to fight against COVID-19.

In December 2021, Jiujiang held the International Sister City Painting Exhibition, Tamano, participated in the exhibition and sent a congratulatory video.

In July 2023, Yoshiro Shibata,Mayor of Tamano sent a letter of congratulation to Jiang Wending on his election as Mayor of Jiujiang.

In July 2023, Du Shaohua, Vice Mayor of Jiujiang Municipal Government led a Jiujiang delegation of cultural and tourism industry to visit Tamano, and promoted the exchanges and cooperation for the two cities in the fields of cultural and tourism.

In August 2023, the "Dialogue Between Youth Leaders From Jiangxi and International Friendship Partners at Different Levels 2023" event was hold in Jiujiang. Nearly 60 youth representatives from Tamano have a greater understanding of Jiujiang's history and humanities, rural revitalization, scientific and technological innovation, ecological and environmental protection projects, and have a closer experience of Chinese culture.

Louisville has notable colleges and universities, such as University of Louisville, the second biggest State-owned University in Kentucky. Superior location and network of transportation provide exceptional advantages to its industries. As a traditional heavy industrial base, it has strong power. Louisville is one of the important political, economical and cultural centers in Mid-west USA.

From March to December 2021, Jiujiang shared the information to Louisville and its sister cities through Louisville's sister city magazine,the NEWSLETTER, showing Jiujiang's local customs, cultural customs, citizens' style and achievements in economic and social development.

From April 2020 to March 2023, Jiujiang has maintained close online communication with Louisville.

In April 2023, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Jiujiang Municipal People's Government conducted online exchanges with Executive Director of World Affairs Council of KY & So. IN to discuss the 2023 friendly exchanges and cooperation plan for the two cities.

In July 2023, Craig Greenberg,the Mayor of Louisville sent a letter of congratulation to Jiang Wending on his election as Mayor of Jiujiang.

In July 2023, Jiujiang Municipal People's Government Office (Foreign Affairs Office of Jiujiang Municipal People's Government), Jiujiang University, World Affairs Council of KY & So. IN and University of Louisville attended online conference to promote practical cooperation in education and culture in the post-COVID-19 era.

In July 2024, Louisville sent three teachers to Jiujiang to launch the 18th Session of the US Crane House Training Program.

In August 2024, Xiong Jinxi, Deputy Mayor of Jiujiang Municipal People’s Government led a delegation of six people to visit Louisville to attend the 20th Anniversary Reception.

In March 2025, Jiujiang City held a video conference with Zhao Xiaoyin, Chairperson of the World Affairs Council Association of Louisville, (Jiujiang's sister city). The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on cooperation in areas such as education and cultural exchange.

In June 2025, Chairperson Zhao Xiaoyin of the World Affairs Council Association of Louisville, led a four-member delegation on a visit to Jiujiang. The delegation visited the Lianxi Campus of Jiujiang Foreign Language School. This visit served to lay the groundwork for a future student exchange program between Louisville and Jiujiang City.

Savannah is an important port city which is located to the southeast coast of America and the third largest container port. It's surrounded by water in three sides. It covers an area of 200sq.km with a population of 400,000. Its higher education and tourism industry are well developed. Based on its textile and papermaking industry, they strive to develop tourism, logistics, medical services and manufacture.

In October 2008, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with Savannah.

In March 2017, a 10-member delegation from Savannah visited Jiujiang University for exchange.

In June 2018, a 9-member delegation from Savannah Education Bureau visited Jiujiang University and some primary and secondary schools in Jiujiang to discuss educational exchange and cooperation.

In April 2019, to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University and to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges between Jiujiang and Savannah, an art delegation of 12 students from Jiujiang University visited Savannah and gave performance at the Confucius Institute in Savannah.

In July 2019, Mr. Yan Ping, then Vice Chairman of Jiujiang Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led a 6-member educational delegation to visit the Confucius Institute at Savannah State University. During the same period, a delegation of 17 students and teachers from Jiujiang University visited Savannah State University.

In April 2020, Jiujiang sent a letter of consolation to the city of Savannah to express concerns for Savannah people during the COVID-19.

Queimados is located in the state of Rio de Janerio with a population of 140,000 and merely 53km far from the famous city-Rio de Janeiro. It's a city combined rich history with youthful vigor. Brazilian football is well-known all over the world and they also have rich experience and unique advantages in football education. They strive for developing industry and commerce and have their own industrial park and independent business brand.

In February 2017, Ms. Feng Jing, then Director of the Standing Committee of the Jiujiang Municipal People's Congress, led a 6-member delegation to visit the city of Queimados.

La Plata is the provincial capital of Buenos Aires Province which is the biggest one in Argentina. It was founded in 1882 with a population of 600,000. The status and function of industry is crucial such as shipbuilding, petroleum, chemical industry, fiber, food processing, freezer machine and electrical equipment making. UNESCO awarded the city "The Most Livable City".

In January 2008, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with La Plata.

In February 2017, Ms. Feng Jing, then director of the Standing Committee of the Jiujiang Municipal People's Congress, led a 6-member delegation to visit La Plata.

In February 2019, in order to promote cultural exchanges between Jiujiang and La Plata, Jiujiang sent 5 photographs to participate in the "Cultural Photography Contest" held in La Plata.

In January 2020, Jiujiang sent 5 photographs to the "Chinese New Year Photo Exhibition" held in La Plata.

In December 2021, Jiujiang held the International Sister City Painting Exhibition, 5 paintings from La Plata were exhibited.

In March 2022, Jiujiang donated a number of materials representing Chinese cultural characteristics, such as Chinese loong, Chinese lantern, Chinese knots, couplets and window paper-cut, to La Plata, supporting the Chinese New Year celebration held in La Plata.

In July 2023, the Mayor of La Plata sent a letter of congratulation to Jiang Wending on his election as Mayor of Jiujiang.

In August 2024, Zhan Yong, Chairman of Jiujiang Municipal Committee of the CPPCC led a delegation of six people to visit La Plata.

Serowe is one of the major cities in the the Republic of Botswana. It was once one of the largest traditional tribal villages in the history of Africa, and now it is the capital city of the Central Region of Botswana, with a population of about 100000. Serowe hold a special place of importance in the contemporary history of Botswana, three presidents were born in Serowe, and Vice Presidents, Ministers of Defense and Security, Ministers of Education and a number of important members of parliament are also from the city. Therefore, Serowe is also regarded as “The Best Place" of Botswana. The city’s construction level of urban infrastructure, schools, and hospitals ranks among the top in the country. There are some famous tourist attractions in the city, such as the Holy Mountain of President Karma’s Family Cemetery, the Kama’s Family Museum, and the Rhinoceros Conservation Area.

In September 2013, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with Serowe.

In September 2017, the Vice Chairman of the Central District Council, Ketshwereng Galeragwe, led a 4-member delegation to Jiujiang to discuss the possible exchanges between Jiujiang and Serowe in the fields of education, culture, health and environmental protection.

In September 2018, Mokgweetsi Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana led a delegation of 16 people to visit Jiujiang. Liu Qi, then Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, met with President Masisi and his wife on Mount. Lushan, and government leaders of Jiujiang also accompanied.

In February 2023, the Jiujiang Municipal Government Office(Foreign Affairs Office of Jiujiang Municipal People's Government)conducted an online communication with the Senior Public Relations Office of the Central District of Botswana, discussing the friendly exchange and cooperation plans for the two cities in 2023.

BawBaw Shire, which is located in the south of Victoria, Australia, covers an area of 3,800sq.km with a population of 35,500. It has convenient transportation, as a significant commercial service center. Agriculture, animal husbandry and gardening industry develop well in the region. Communal facilities in culture, education system, physical activities and tourism are of perfection.

In December 1993, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with BawBaw Shire.

In March 2017, a delegation of 24 teachers and students from Baw Baw Shire paid a visit to Jiujiang.

In September 2017, a delegation of 6 members from the People's Government of Jiujiang paid a visit to Baw Baw Shire.

In June 2018, Joe Gosi, the mayor of Baw Baw Shire, sent a congratulatory letter to the then Secretary of the CPC Jiujiang Municipal Committee and then Mayor of Jiujiang Government.

After the outbreak of COVID-19, Jiujiang and Baw Baw Shire offered concerns and consolations to each other.

In December 2024, Wayne Hardie, the former Mayor of Baw Baw Shire visited our city. Both sides reviewed the history of friendly exchanges over the past decades. Jiujiang entrusted Wayne Hardie to forward a letter of congratulation from Jiang Wending, Mayor of Jiujiang to Danny Goss, the new Mayor of Baw Baw Shire.

Legionowo which is located in the middle of Poland is 20km from the capital Warsaw. It covers 1,360 hectare in area with a population of around 50,000. Superior and strategic location, convenient transportation, advanced infrastructure and rich human resources are all the advantages for developing its economy. It's the base of education, medical treatment, culture and physical activities. Rag trade, food industry and service industry are its staple ones, with traditional handicraft well known. It has abundant tourism resources, like Zalew Zegrzynski Lake.

In June 2008, Jiujiang established Sister Cities Relationship with Legionowo.

In August 2018, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the twinning of Jiujiang and Legionowo, Ms. Liao Qizhi, then Standing Committee Member of Jiujiang, led a 6-member delegation to visit the city of Legionowo.

In December 2021, Jiujiang held the International Sister City Painting Exhibition, 2 paintings from Legionowo were exhibited.

Kajaani was established in 1651. It's in the center of Finland and 460km from Helsinki, the capital. It covers an area of 1,400sq.km with a population of 38,000. The major industries are paper making and facility-making for winter sports. It provides excellent chances for physical training and sports entertainment. National and international meetings are frequently held here each year.

Exchanges and cooperation between Jiujiang and Kajaani in recent years

In August 2017, Wu Qiuhong, then Vice Chairman of Jiujiang CPPCC, led a 6-member delegation to visit Kajaani.

In May 2018, a 12-member delegation of Kajaani including councillors, government leaders and entrepreneurs paid a friendly and business visit to Jiujiang.

In October 2018, Xie Yiping, then Mayor of Jiujiang Government, led a 6-member delegation to visit Kajaani.

In February 2020, Jari Tolonen, Mayor of Kajaani, sent a letter of consolation to Jiujiang, expressing his support for Jiujiang people during the COVID-19. Later Kajaani donated 2,000 KN95 masks to Jiujiang.

In December, 2021, Jiujiang held the International Sister City Painting Exhibition, 12 paintings from Kajaani were exhibited. Jari Tolonen, Mayor of Kajaani sent a video message to congratulate the 15th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Jiujiang and Kajaani and the opening of the painting exhibition.

In July 2023, the Mayor of Kajaani sent a letter to Jiujiang congratulating Jiang Wending on his election as the Mayor of Jiujiang.

In June 2024, Huang Qiang, Deputy Secretary of Jiujiang Municipal Committee of the CPC, led a 6-member delegation to visit Kajaani.
